Spartanburg, SC —Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg is proud to announce the appointment of Suzanne B. Cole and Barry H. Bodie, M.D., to its board of trustees. “We believe their experience and commitment to our community will help us sharpen our focus as we continue to grow and strengthen our health system,” said H. Walter Barre, Chairman, Mary Black Health System – Spartanburg, Board of Trustees.
Suzy Cole is Executive Director of Children's Advocacy Center of Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties. She earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina, after graduating from the University of South Carolina Honors College. Suzy served as a Spartanburg Housing Authority Commissioner from 2009-2016, and chaired the Board of Commissioners from 2014-2016. She has also served on the Girls Scouts of South Carolina Boots & Pearls Committee since its inception in 2013 and is an Elder of First Presbyterian Church. Suzy and her husband, Derham, live in Spartanburg and have two young children. She enjoys spending time with her family and is an avid Gamecock fan.
Barry H. Bodie, M.D. is board certified in Urology. Dr. Bodie is a graduate of Wofford College and completed his residency in Urologic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic after receiving his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He currently treats patients at Mary Black Physicians Group Urology. Dr. Bodie is a member of professional organizations which include the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the American Urological Association, and the Society of University Urologists. He is the recipient of several awards for his teaching, as well as serving in a number of leadership positions with various health related organizations.
A member of the Board of Trustees for the Brevard Philharmonic Orchestra, Dr. Bodie enjoys classical music, travel, 20th Century English history and politics. He and his wife, Laurel Johnson, a nurse anesthetist, live in Inman. Together they have seven children.
