SPARTANBURG, SC – Dr. Sami Elhassani, Neonatologist with Mary Black Health System, has been honored by The Spartanburg County Medical Society as the D.C. Hull Physician-of-the-Year. This annual award was presented during the Society’s Holiday Gala at the Piedmont Club.
Dr. Elhassani has a long history of caring for newborns, not just here in the Upstate, but also overseas. As part of the World Pediatric Project, Dr. Elhassani rounded with medical staff at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and worked closely with the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired. His mission there was to provide education on treating blindness of premature babies.
Dr. Elhassani has practiced in many settings around the country and all over the world, but has practiced in Spartanburg for the majority of his career. He has worked with many state and local organizations including the Spartanburg County Medical Society and the South Carolina Medical Association. He has published over 100 articles and over 30 scientific presentations. He has also taught many medical students and residents throughout his career who reflect on his same caring nature and wonderful personality.
Dr. Elhassani is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is certified by a sub-board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
